Probably a Scoop

For nearly a year and half, an advertisement appears regularly on the front page of daily newspapers in Punjab. The advertisement is in form of a long gray strip spanned over four columns of the newspapers at the lower end of the front page. Every advertisement carries a slogan type message. The messages are all eulogizing of the achievements of the Punjab government. Each strip carries a picture of the Chief Minister Maharaja (Cpt.) Amrinder Singh.

On each advertisement mentioned above, a small number is given as Advt. No. XXX. Today, Advt. No. 570 has appeared. It is published in The Tribune. However it has not appeared in the Hindustan Times. I do not know whether the similar advertisements are also appearing on the front page of vernacular dailies or not. But today it is not there on the Hindustan Times.

What may be the cause? Even in the Ludhiana Pull out of the Tribune there are two reports about the political activities of the two of the leading parties of Punjab namely the Congress and Akali Dal. The reports are about the political activities carried out by the political parties for the forthcoming Assembly Elections in Punjab (They are due by February 2007). The theme of both the reports convey the message that the Congress is consolidating its hold on the voters whereas the Akalis are suffering from internal squabbles.

In case of the Hindustan Times, somewhat different reports are given wherein Akalis are mainly reported to be gearing up well for the forthcoming elections.

What can be the cause? Has the Hindustan Times lost the contract to publish the daily dose of Advertisements? Or May be, they have not been able to publish that.

Any Idea?!
